As an avid coffee drinker, I use to dress up my beverage with both milk and sugar (2 teaspoons). It was like a little treat in my over-sized mug that I indulged in a few times a day. This has changed recently as I am trying to eat better and become healthier. The milk in my coffee is skim or 0.5, and the sugar got a kick to the curb.
I didn't start this change on my own - I was quite happy with my little sugary coffee. This change started with a challenge that my co-workers had taken on themselves, that I had piggybacked on. The challenge was to give something up in your diet for 30 days. Mine was sugar in my coffee. Doing this challenge with friends kept me accountable, which is something that I greatly needed to break away from this habit.
To be honest, a month after the challenge has ended, I don't miss the sugar. The important part is still in my cup - the delicious, pipping hot coffee. It's been two months, and I won't be going back. Now, keeping that in mind, when given a coffee that someone has made for me, I don't contest. I sit and drink.
Tea, on the other hand is another story. I cannot enjoy a cup of black tea without 1 teaspoon of sugar or some honey. Although, I am counting this as a win because it has been decreased from 2 teaspoons.
Have you taken part in any of the 30 day challenges for a better diet/lifestyle? If so, what did you give up? What was it like? And, have you gone back to old ways after the challenge ended? Post your story below, I'd love to hear from you.
That's all for now. Stay caffeinated, folks :)
Later days,
Jen

This is something I started myself when I was dieting. I found that we drink most of our calories in a day and this was one place where they were hiding. It takes a while to appreciate the flavor but once you've quit for a long time there is no going back.
ReplyDeleteAre you saying that I may also get to the point where I don't need milk in my coffee? If so, I don't know if I'm ready to hear that! Skim milk isn't that bad in my coffee, is it?
DeleteIt's not bad in small quantities, however, there is a lot of sugar in milk and hides there without our knowing.... Sneaky sugars....
