The Sunshine Blogger Award

What is this? WHAT IS THIS?!? Much thank's to the wonderful Heidi, of Living Humble Bee, for the Sunshine Blogger Nomination! This is not a notification that I was prepared for today. I'm appreciate the nomination, you are too kind Heidi. Being overcome with the heat (but not complaining about it!), I will certainly try to complete the tasks of this nomination. Hence, this additional post outside of my normal posting schedule.

First, I'll go into what this award is. The Sunshine Blogger Award is a way for like-minded bloggers to get to know each other. This group of bloggers are positive, creative and inspiring. It is an honor to be included in this group of bloggers.

And next, here are the rules:
  1. Thank the blogger who nominated you in your blog post and link back to her/his blog.
  2. Answer 11 questions that the blogger asked you.
  3. Nominate 11 new bloggers to receive the awards and write them 11 questions.
  4. List the rules and display the Sunshine blogger award logo in your post on your blog.

Here are the 11 questions that Heide has asked:

1. What is something that you are proud of?
Working towards my goal of achieving a higher position at work on two aspects.  There are going to be many retirements in the next 3-5 years and I want to be as qualified as possible for the positions that I’m interested in when they become available. So, I’m reaching my 10 yr seniority this Fall, and I’m working towards my BA. Time is going to go by no matter what you do, if you have a goal, you might as well use the time wisely.

2. What is your favorite summer activity?
I love swimming, but I have to work hard to convince myself to get into a swimsuit and do it.  But, I’m working on my confidence. Going for drives for ice cream in different towns is also one of my favorite activities.

3. Mountains or beach, and why?
Beach.  I’m allergic to things found in the everyday environment and the sea breeze helps me breath.  It’s like the beach breathes live into my soul with every wave that hits the shore.

4. What keeps you motivated to keep blogging and writing?
Blogging is something that I talked about doing for some time now.  In the last few months I read blog after blog, article after article, and spoke to my co-worker (Andy, nominated below) about blogging.  But before that, I started looking into blogging back in 2014 (according to an email from my hubby that was sent to me in 2014).

5. Who is someone that you look up to?
I look up to many of those around me for different reasons. My hubby for accomplishing every goal that he has set himself up with. My parents for raising two (half) normal kids (lol) who are now off into the world blazing their own paths. And to my grandparents who experienced so much change in their lives that we will never understand.

6. What age would you like to permanently be? (I’m stealing this one from Nancy, ha!)
Geesh.  Um…25?  That’s an age where you have adult freedom (like a licence, and the ability to buy booze, build your education and career), while still being able to screw up (to an extent) without people saying that you should know better.

7. What is your favorite dish to cook or bake?
Cookies and nachos.

8. If you could have a superpower, which would you choose?
To teleport.  Hello Disney parks on the weekends!

9. What is one of your dream vacations?
I love going to the parks in Florida.  I love the atmosphere, the food, the thrill rides, and spending time with my hubby.  But, for a place that I’ve never been?  I would love to visit Greece.

10. What is your favorite article of clothing?
PJ bottoms.

11. What is your favorite/most inspiring book you’ve read?
Favorite?  It has to be Pet Sematary by Stephen King.  But, inspiring, it would be The Happiness Project by Gretchen Rueben.

Here are my 11 nominees:
Sophie @SophieBlogger
Rebekah @RebekahGillian
Stace @Staceafter30
CherBelle @CherBelleBlog
Davi @DaviTodd

Here are the questions for my nominations:
  1. What fictional place would you most like to go to?
  2. What is your favorite beverage?
  3. What animal would be cutest if scaled down to the size of a cat?
  4. If your job gave you a surprise three day paid break to rest and recuperate, what would you do with those three days?
  5. What movie can you watch over and over without ever getting tired of?
  6. What social stigma does society need to get over?
  7. What food have you never eaten but would really like to try?
  8. What is your favorite novel/book?
  9. What makes you roll your eyes every time you hear it?
  10. What’s your cure for hiccups?
  11. What mythical creature do you wish actually existed?

Sci-Fi on the Rock

Hi folks, Last weekend myself and Mandi attended, and hosted an event and panel at this years Sci-Fi on the Rock  for our Welcome to Deadhouse  Goosebumps book club ( #GBCGhostNextDoor on Twitter). This adventure all started with suggestions from our spouses. So, we came up with a few ideas, went through the application process and waited. We are new to the event and panelist, and our YouTube book club is under a year old - so we figured that we didn't have much of a shot of being accepted.  Then the email came. We were accepted as panelist. For both ideas that we submitted.  Oh snap! Oh snap! OH SNAP! Planning the panels was super fun.  We love the Goosebumps series and we were able to create a plan that we were both happy with.  The "Reader Beware, You Choose the Scare!" event was first - it was the first evening of the event, and scheduled to be 2 hours long. Here we read through the Diary of the Mad Mummy, and backtracked 4 times to get 4 diff...

October Staycation

This past week my hubby and I had a staycation.  We love Fall - and it's for this reason that we always take a week or so off to enjoy it. During our week off we gorged on Little Caesars Stuffed Crazy Bread and Cinnamon rolls (nom nom nom carbs lol). Purchased a few new aquarium inhabitants, including 3 snails, 3 Odessa Barbs, 3 Skirt Tailed Tetra Glowfish, and a Kheli Loach. So far, one of the Tinfoil Barbs has tried to immediately pick up and eat the loach, and tried to pull a snail off the glass of the aquarium. We are doing fish counts daily until the Tinfoil Barbs lose interest. We also took a drive through Swift Current to Marystown to do some sightseeing. Along this route are a few lookouts.  We did stop at one of them, however, the binoculars that were stationed here were broken (maybe sandblasted by the wind sweeping over the area?)   There seems like there is nothing special about this area.  But, this is the only area of thi...

Maternity Leave - thus far

Life with a newborn is busy, but honestly - I thought that I would be busier. The weather this Fall has been amazing! It's making is easier to get out with the little guy - walking, shopping, playgroup and movies. There is so much to do and it's how I break up the days. We're grateful that there is a family resource center close by that has free drop-in activities for infants, toddlers and up. Meeting new moms who have a little one close to the age of mine is fantastic. Aside from socializing with other adults (which you miss when not going to work daily), you get to ask questions, share experiences, and get to know people that you may be seeing throughout the school year when the littles are older.  And, our movie theater has baby and parent movies every week. There are two new movie offerings each Wednesday morning, and the movie starts at a decent time - which allows time to get me and the little ready for the day and out the door.  Maternity leave here in Ca...
