One of the events that I love, that happen in the Summer, is the Blueberry Festival. I've been there many times, growing up with family, and later on with my husband. This year I ventured out with THREE of my work friends - all of which never been to the Blueberry Festival before!
These are a great bunch of ladies - they love to get out and see the sights, they are awesome to work with, and they are fantastic lunch buddies! In fact, Andy (second from far right) already has her blog post up about the festival and you should check it out! Here is the link to the Blueberry Festival post: Just Being Andie. I'm tots slow at getting this post up.
It irked me a little that I didn't have any clear pictures of The Brigus Tunnel for my last feature on Brigus - so I fixed that with this trip. I'm sure that I had pictures but they were lost when my computer crashed and needed to be brought back to factory settings back in February.
So, to elaborate from my last post...this is the view from inside the tunnel. This is what people flock to see. It's a little clip of relaxation and paradise. Quiet, calm, and sometimes a little breezy (my hair took on a life of it's own here - lol)
We left for the festival early to arrive 30 min before it was suppose to start, with the goal of parking inside the town and not out on the highway. Our plan worked! Once inside Brigus we walked around before heading towards the festival grounds. Aside from seeing the tunnel, we took in a historic church - the St. George's Historic Church (built in 1876). And this church may, or may not, have a visitor in the basement. Anyone know the number for The Ghostbusters??
This church isn't usually open for visitation, but for the festival the doors were opened - and this was my first time inside (from what I remember). Inside was a display of hand-hooked rugs and other like items. The colors were bright, eye-catching and set up for sale to the festival goers.
After seeing the sights we ventured into the festival grounds. Here we found booths, kids games and entertainment, singers on stage, and food. Oh, the glorious smell of food! First, I had a snow cone (compliments of Andy). I cannot describe how refreshing this was on this hot day. There aren't any words that come to mind.
And for lunch we dined in at The Country Corner. This is a sweet little restaurant set up in central Brigus that has a wide array of menu items. At the Blueberry Festival the hits were Moose Burgers and Blueberry Crisps - neither of which I ordered. I'm trying to eat more healthy (snow cone aside...lol) so I ordered a goat cheese and cranberry spinach salad (with balsamic vinaigrette) and a steak. This was delicious!
Aside from getting fantastic parking, another bonus of getting there early was that I was able to get this great shot without any photo-bombs. Score!
We stuck around until 2ish. That's when the sun started to become very hot and the crowds started picking up. Overall, I had a great time and look forward to venturing out with my co-workers again in the future.
Later Days,
Jen
